Jenn, I'm not sure I agree with "we all know how difficult it is to multi-task." I remember learning in undergrad psych that males find it more difficult to multi-task due to the way their brains fire neurons from certain sides of the brain yet females are more "wired" to multi-task. I know a lot of people, male and female though, who are great at multi-tasking and they are able to commit their attention to both tasks at once. The book, to me, suggests that there are different attention processes and we may fit into 1,2, or all of them. Some might not fit into that divided-attention task category because they are good at doing multiple tasks at once. Maybe I'm off but your comment stretched my thoughts!
